About Me

I'm a sysadmin in the DFW area of Texas. I've been doing sysadmin work on unix boxes, and network layer gear like routers, firewalls, and load balancers for a long… long time. Check out my linked-in profile for more on that.

Systems monitoring and spam mitigation are a couple areas I've done some work worthy of attention. I wrote a book about systems monitoring with Nagios, an open source monitoring framework, and write the monthly monitoring column for Login Magazine. Copies of those articles are usually available in the published stuff section of this site when I remember to update this site.

In 2004 I co-authored a paper on spam mitigation that won the best paper award at LISA 2004. I've given a few talks on spam since then. One at defcon and another at Lisa in 2007. I don't really pay attention to the spam research these days, it's a solved problem if you want it to be IMHO.

Beyond the professional stuff it's hard to elaborate, I have 4006 hobbies at last count. Some of them might eventually show up here if I can spare the time.
